Prime Video's adaptation of Carrie starring Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan began streaming on October 7.

Carrie (2026) is Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Stephen King's iconic horror novel. Flanagan, a frequent King collaborator and director of Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, writes and showruns this eight-episode series adaptation and also directs some episodes.

Flanagan works as executive producer alongside longtime collaborator Trevor Macy and producers Rebecca Klingel, Dani Parker, and Justin Wagman. Amazon MGM Studios makes Carrie in association with Flanagan's Red Room Pictures and Reunion Pacific Entertainment.

Flanagan's Carrie began streaming on October 7. All 8 episodes of the limited series are available at once. Carrie is not getting a theatrical release and won't air on an episodic basis either. You can watch it on Prime Video.

A New Girl at School

In Carrie, which was Stephen King's 1974 debut novel, Carrie White loses her father unexpectedly and starts high school for the first time. After one of her encounters with her bullies goes viral online, the fallout from it all envelops her small community. Along the way, Carrie White discovers that she's a lot more powerful than anyone could imagine.

Flanagan Returns to King

Carrie marks Mike Flanagan's fourth adaptation of a Stephen King property, after Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck. Carrie comes out of his newer deal with Amazon. Flanagan previously helmed horror series on other streaming platforms. Netflix released his The Haunting of Hill House (2018) and Midnight Mass (2021).

The original Carrie is an unusual Stephen King novel in that it's epistolary, weaving in elements like newspaper articles, personal letters, interviews, etc. As a movie, it had to give up that format and become more streamlined, like pretty much every adaptation. In making Carrie a series, Flanagan can presumably take advantage of some of that and delve into characters with greater depth, not to mention move at a slower, creepier pace.

That said, like King's novel before it, Carrie will still be about high school mean girls. Where King depicted it in an era before the internet, however, the Prime Video series is contemporary, with a bullying incident going viral online and dragging in the rest of the community.

Official Trailer

Who It's For

Horror fans. Carrie adaptations have previously been only as movies. Brian De Palma's 1976 version was nominated in acting categories (Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, Piper Laurie as her mother Margaret). A TV-movie followed in 2002, and a more recent remake starred Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie White and Julianne Moore in 2013. A Carrie series can dig deeper, especially one made by Mike Flanagan, whose slow-moving, character-first works (and ensemble casts, as evident above) suit streaming. Samantha Sloyan is no stranger to his worlds, either. The soundtrack is courtesy of longtime collaborators, The Newton Brothers aka composer duo Taylor Stewart and Andrew Grush (who's worked with Flanagan since Oculus).
